Octopus are molluscs in the class Cephalopoda, order Octopoda. Other molluscs include chiton (Polyplacophora), snails and slugs (Gastropoda), mussels, clams and their relatives (Bivalvia), and tooth-shells (Scaphopoda). Cephalopods include three main groups: nautilus, squids, and octopus.
