SHADOW Biological Data Team, Alaska Pacific University. Faculty advisor, Dr. David Scheel.
The Biological Data team is working on collecting and analyzing biological data, including estimating the parameters needed to follow a moving octopus, developing the video system and analyzing. How fast must the SHADOW platform be able to move? How can scale data be determined for each video image? How do octopuses select habitat, forage, and what do they eat? (Interested APU students see Dr. Scheel.)

SHADOW3 Power Control Team, University of Arizona. Faculty advisor, Dr. Thomas Vincent.
The Power Control team is developing the platform and designing the thrusters, bouyancy controls and stabilizers that allow SHADOW to move through the water.

SHADOW3 Navigation Control Team, Colorado School of Mines. Faculty advisor, Dr. Tyrone Vincent.
Project supervisor, Dr. Kathy Skokan. The Navigation Control team is working on the tracking system that will allow SHADOW determine the range and direction to the octopus, using a signal from a sonic tag attached to the animal. The Power and Control teams will jointly develop controls systems for manuevering Shadow to keep the camera pointed at the octopus, and entering and leaving stand-by mode.
