Instructional Objectives:

Materials:

Procedures:

  1. This activity is much like the game 20 questions. This game is best suited for students that are familiar with the special parts of various animals found in the intertidal zone. Attach an animal name onto each student's back. Tell the students to listen well to each other, and to remember the hints the other students are giving them about which creature they are in the intertidal.
  2. Students should first chose a partner. Then each partner will question the other, eg Do I live in the Splash Zone? Am I big? Do I eat crabs? Stress the fact that these will be YES AND NO QUESTIONS ONLY. Students may make guesses as to what intertidal creature they are, but partners are not allowed to tell the answer. Encourage students to ask questions about color, intertidal zone occupied, eating habits, and special adaptative features.
  3. Have partners switch name tags after they figure out which intertidal creature they are. The game can be switched around as well. A student can be told which creature he/she is, then have other students try to figure which intertidal animal he/she is.
