Instructional Objectives:

Materials:

Procedures:

  1. Review the different zones of the intertidal habit.
  2. Ask students to name some animals they may find in each intertidal zone. Either hand out index cards to students or go through them one by one as a group. Have students decide which zone the animal belongs in. Ask why they think the animal should live in the particular zone and not in another? If answers are correct, tape the animal in the zone.

For information on intertidal zones of Alaska animals, refer to the Prince William Sound Intertidal Zones sheet to view some of the animal and plant life.

  3. Discuss the special parts that each animal has to help them obtain food, provide shelter for themselves, and provide locomotion. Have the students look up facts about each animal to provide each other with more information.

Note:

This activity should be introduced before using the Who am I? activity.
